My work explores the complexities and tensions of the human experience and how we engage with the world, others and ourselves. Representing this mainly through abstracted landscapes, I work with oil and use bold, strong mark making, capturing the contrast of light and dark to portray emotional experiences which encourage the viewer to stop, reflect and question their own emotional reaction and what this means for them. I enjoy working on a larger scale, allowing my physical engagement with the work to add emotional weight and impact.

My deep curiosity about the nature of human emotions, behaviours and development has shaped my career and I am inspired by those who use their strength & vulnerability positively, holding up a mirror, talking up even against the odds.

Following the recent loss of my mother, I am exploring the impact of bereavement and how this reveals itself in familiar landscapes. Alongside the felt experience of grief, I am also investigating how we notice and respond to the ‘gifts’ and ‘curses’ we inherit from our parents.
